FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

(Everything you need to know!)

ADULT HOLIDAYS

What will I do on holiday?
We set your programme to suit you. You can ride up to 4 hours each day, with a mixture of tuition, and riding out in pleasant countryside. You may also spend a day riding out in the forests or East Lothian beaches.

The programme for adults is created when you arrive and we see what you can do; and discover what you want to learn. From intensive daily tuition to easy going hacking out, your week is tailored to suit you.

Evenings are largely up to you, but Lanark and the surrounding areas offer lots of scope for eating, sightseeing, and walking. Many visitors elect to have a day, or more, to go sightseeing. Let us know if you wish to do this and we can help plan you itinerary.

I have no experience of riding. Is this a problem?
Definitely not. Many adults come as complete beginners and use the holiday to take up riding for the first time.

When do Holidays take place?
All year round, except for Christmas and New Year.

My partner would like to come but does not Ride?
Non riders are welcome. They can spend their days cycling, hill walking, playing golf on a choice of courses, or simply exploring Scotland's major cities, with both Edinburgh and Glasgow just an hour away.

Can I bring my own horse?
Own horses are welcome. This does not affect the pricing in any way.

Apart from the obvious, what should I pack?
Riding gear if you have any. If not, avoid denims for riding, and bring footwear with a heel. Trainers are unsuitable for riding. And please bring your own towels. Otherwise this is an inclusive package covering all riding, accommodation, meals and light refreshments.

What if my partner and our children want to come?
We have ample room for families; and family rates apply for a couple and twp children. Children can be accommodated in twin, triple, or four bedded rooms.

Any Special Deals for families?
We offer a discount for the second and more children in a family of four. There is no peak summer increase, and as such our ultra keen pricing leaves no room for discounts. You get incredible value for money with us. That said, we do offer 10% off a second week if booked to run consecutively.

When should I arrive - depart?
You should arrive by 2.30pm Sunday, and depart by noon, Saturday. This allows us time to change rooms around. We are highly flexible, so should this be a problem, give us a call to arrange different timings. Car parking is ample and safe.

CHILDREN'S HOLIDAYS

What do the children do on holiday?
Children are divided in groups according to ability. Each group then tackles a programme of events, suitably tailored to suit ability levels. All children will ride 4 hours daily. All receive a mixture of tuition, riding out, mounted treasure hunts, games, horse football, etcetera.

On the final Friday of the holiday children can compete in a games and a jumping session, with prizes and rosettes.

While all tackle the same things, the degree of riding ability required varies according to the child. Most weeks we have complete beginner groups, right up to highly competent riders.

What do Children Do in the Evening?
Our dedicated staff organise things to do at night. Again they take into account the tastes of the group. Things they will organise might include a talent show, disco, trip to the swimming baths, volley ball competitions, trampoline training, quiz nights, video nights, and so on.

Our staff are hand picked, and are likely to be teachers, or professionals. They also provide a 24 security cover, and ensure that the younger ones are looked after; and that they remember to brush their teeth!

Does the child have the same pony all week?
We marry-up ponies and riders, and rarely get it wrong. The child rides the same pony throughout the holiday, and assists in its general welfare. If that does not work out, then we will try a different pony.

What supervision is applied?
Children never leave the complex unaccompanied. They are taken to the local shops or to the swimming baths, but never leave the group. Staff patrol the corridors after bed time to ensure all settle down, and that the few do not prevent the many from getting a good night's rest.

We have little problem in this area, since most children are tired and ready to sleep after the first night! Staff rooms are on the same floor as the children to ensure they are completely secure at all times. Children are told where to find staff at all times, and during the night.

If you request an airport or station collection for a child this is only done by our permanent staff or family members. Our staff wear easily recognised sweat shirts or jackets, and vehicles are usually liveried.

What should a child bring?
Riding gear if you have any. If not, avoid denims for riding, and bring footwear with a heel. Trainers are unsuitable for riding. Please bring your own towels. We can supply the latest standard safety hats if necessary. Otherwise this is an inclusive package covering all riding, accommodation, meals and light refreshments.

We discourage mobile phones
The reason is simple. While the child is still feeling a little strange on the first night or two, they tend to phone you at bed time. Parents tell them how they are missed, how their cat or dog, or pony misses them, and suddenly we have a homesick child. This was never a problem before the mobile phone phenomenon started. so please NO mobile phones!

Any special rates for children?
Our prices are fixed throughout the year - there are no peak period increases. So we tend to have little room for discounts. However, if you book two weeks to run consecutively, the second week is discounted by 10%. A big saving. We can also offer discounts for two children in a family.

When should the child arrive - depart?
Children should be dropped off at 2.30pm Sunday, and collected by noon, Saturday. This allows us time to change rooms around. We are highly flexible, so should this be a problem, give us a call to arrange different timings.
